DOT/RTD

Qualified DOT SAP

01

Initial Evaluation

The SAP will conduct an initial assessment with the employee to evaluate their needs and recommend suitable education and/or treatment options. At a minimum, the SAP must suggest drug/alcohol education. After the assessment, the SAP will send the initial evaluation report to your Designated Employer Representative (DER).

03

Return To Duty

ONLY the employer or prospective employer can order a return-to-duty test. The RTD must produce negative results. Once the employee is back at work, they will undergo random drug and alcohol testing.

02

Education/Treatment

The employee will participate in services based on the SAP's recommendations. The SAP will provide comprehensive case management to ensure the employee’s compliance throughout the entire process until completion. After completing the education or treatment, the SAP will help the employee schedule a follow-up evaluation.

04

Follow-Up Testing

The SAP will create a follow-up drug and alcohol testing plan in line with DOT regulations, which will include at least 6 random tests during the first 12 months after your return to a safety-sensitive position. Depending on your situation, the plan may last a minimum of 12 months and can extend up to a maximum of 60 months. Please be aware that the employer cannot share the specifics of the testing plan with you.
